About the Play:

The Charles R. Drew Prep School for Boys is dedicated to the creation of strong, ethical black men. Pharus wants nothing more than to take his rightful place as leader of the school’s legendary gospel choir. Can he find his way inside the hallowed halls of this institution if he sings in his own key? Choir Boy is an exploration of the intersection of race and sexuality through brilliant storytelling, music, and syncopated step dancing.

Audition Details:

When/where: Sunday, November 12th at 2pm at Rudisil Public Library – 1520 N Harvard, Tulsa  74106

Monday, November 13th at 6:30pm at World Stage Studio – 1130 S. Harvard, Tulsa 74104

What to prepare:  1 gospel or negro spiritual sung acapella

Cast of Characters:

Headmaster Marrow:  Late 30s/early 40s black male.  He is the youngest and latest headmaster for the Charles R. Drew Prep School for Boys.  He is the paternal Uncle of Bobby Marrow.

Pharus Jonathan Young: Late teens.  An effeminate young black male. Begins the play as a junior at the Charles R. Drew Prep School for Boys and the lead of the school’s famous choir.  He is roommates with AJ James.

Mr. Pendleton: Late 60s/70s white male.  Professor at the Charles R. Drew Prep School for Boys.

Bobby Marrow:  Mid to late teens, a young black male.  Is a junior at the Charles R. Drew Prep School.

Junior Davis: Teenage young black male. Junior at the Charles R. Drew Prep School for Boys. He is a member of the school’s choir.

Anthony Justin “AJ” James:  Late teens, athletic young black male.  Senior at the Charles R Drew Prep School for Boys.  He is a member of the school’s choir and the school’s baseball team.  He is roommates with Pharus Young.

David Heard: Late teens, young black male.  Senior at the Charles R. Drew Prep School for Boys.  He is a member of the school’s Choir.
